Invitationals
Invitational Meets are meets Springwood attends and competes in as a team, by invitation of the host team. Unlike regular dual meets, invitationals have many teams competing and may last more than one day. As they are a fundraiser for each host team, they cost money to compete.
Invitationals are fun events with each one having a unique aspect.
Unlike regular dual meets, Invitationals cost money to compete and entries are final once submitted. If your swimmer attends an invitation the parent will be assigned a job (usually timer) for part of it which does not count to your work assignment totals
ALL SWIMMERS on the team roster WILL BE SCHEDULED TO SWIM IN THE CROSSINGS CHALLENGE, WOODLANDS INVITATIONAL, LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS & CITY MEET. Athletes must “sign-out” by the specified date. Note: Often entries are due for these particular meets 2-3 weeks in advance so please pay special attention to the “SIGN-OUT BY…date.”
Notice Crossings Challenge & Woodlands fall on the same weekend. All swimmers will be scheduled to participate in one of the two meets based on their individual times.
“Sign up” will be required for Bishop Bash (8 & unders), Middle Age Madness (9-14 yr olds) and Devil Mtn Pentathlon because the swimmer pays their own entry fee for this meet. Details will be communicated.
For questions about invitationals, email Doris Canada (doriscanada@sbcglobal.net)
Bishop bash is only for swimmers aged 8 and under. Swimmers compete only against swimmers the same age as them. For each heat winner ribbons will be issued. This ia great event for our younger swimmers to get a taste of an invitational in a smaller, less scary setting.
The Devil Mountain Pentathlon, hosted by Dana Hills, is all about the individual swimmer. There are no relays, but each swimmer swims every individual stroke. Ribbons and medals are awarded for best combined time of those five strokes. In a unique twist, the order of events is reversed from a regular swim meet starting with butterfly and ending with IM.
This is an excellent opportunity to see your swimmers progress in the strokes they generally don't swim.
General Schedule (may change year to year)
Saturday - swimmers 10 and under
Sunday - swimmers 11 and up
The Crossings Challenge, hosted by the Walnut Count Swim Team, is all about those B level swimmers. The meet is broken up into A (faster) and B(slower) divisions, but only the B division gets medals. The divisions are based on entry times, and each swimmer may end up in different division for different strokes.
General Schedule (may change year to year):
Friday evening - Free and Breast prelims
Saturday morning - Back and Fly prelims
Saturday afternoon - IM timed Finals, Free Finals, Breast Finals, Back Finals, Fly Finals
Woodlands Invitational is an A level swimmer event. Coaches will decide if your swimmer is fast enough to compete at this event. It's a great event for those faster swimmers who may not always have that competition to push them to go faster. This event has a prelim/finals format for all the individual strokes except IM.
General Schedule (may change year to year)
Saturday - Freestyle, Breaststroke, 11 & up IM, Medley Relay
Sunday - Back, Fly, 10 & under IM, Free Relay
The County Meet, hosted by LMYA, is the ultimate invitational. Only the best swimmers in the county compete. In the beginning of the season, county qualifying times will be released. Only swimmers who achieve those times may compete. Should a swimmer qualify for the county swim, Springwood will give them a golden cap to mark their tremendous achievement.
For this event, a swimmer is limited to two individual events and two relays.
